3 Pictures of Forgiveness

- Pastor Evan Pitts

Ephesians 1:7 says, “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”

It is important to understand that "all our sins are forgiven."

Hebrews 10:19-20 NLT - “And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place.”

*The only way to boldly enter God’s presence is by truly UNDERSTANDING THIS NEXT VERSE!

2 Corinthians 5:19 NLT - “For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.”

This original Greek word for reconcile is (katallássō), this word was originally used for the exchange of coins; or to "COVER" a payment. The more you gain understanding of your sins being covered, the greater level of freedom you will walk out in your life. God gives a Picture of forgiveness through the temple, the Lamb, and High Priest.

The Temple is described in Hebrews 9:24, as a copy of Heaven. This gives us insight of the heavenly realms and how to access Heaven. The temple was made up of the outer court, inner court, and the Holy of Holies. Behind the veil (thick curtain), was the Holy of Holies where God’s manifest presence dwelled.

Then we have the Lamb. The spotless lamb was essential because it's shed blood covered the sins of Israel. In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. “For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.” Hebrews 9:22 (NLT) It was only by the blood of the lamb that the priest could access the Holy of Holies.

Thirdly, we have a HIGH PRIEST. He was a mediator between God and man. The high priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year to make atonement for God’s people. If the priest didn't follow the requirements of the sacrifice completely, then God would not forgive their sins and a curse would fall upon the whole nation. All of this is a shadow or type of Jesus and the finished work He accomplished on the cross.

Here are three pictures to understand reconciliation or forgiveness.

When Jesus died on the cross, He went straight through the temple and tore the veil so that we can ALL enter the presence of God. (Mark 15:37-39 NKJV)

He is the Spotless lamb! We enter God’s presence by His blood, not by your own works (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)

Hebrews 10:11-12 NLT - “Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, GOOD FOR ALL TIME. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand.”

It is finished! Your sins are forgiven!

Ephesians 2:6 NLT states that WE ARE SEATED WITH HIM IN HEAVENLY PLACES! No more work or striving to try to get with God, the work has been DONE! Go boldly into God’s presence where our freedom becomes complete!
