“Not that I have already obtained it [this goal of being Christlike] or have already been made perfect, but I actively press on so that I may take hold of that [perfection] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me and made me His own. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the GOAL to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14 AMP
In the original Greek language, this Word "goal" means to hit the mark! This gives us a picture of a target with a bulls-eye. When we WALK WITH GOD and WORK WITH GOD (Matt 11:28 MSG) we are hitting the mark! The Biblical definition of sin is to "miss the mark". Are you missing the mark with your walk with God? If so, don't get discouraged. Instead, do what every great marksman would do.
1. Admit you’re off target
2. Adjust your aim
3. Take another shot
Remember, if you can't be perfect...be honest! Admit that you’re off target by telling God "I am sorry" for that sin that caused you to miss the mark.
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. ”(1 John 1:9 NLT).
Is the Holy Spirit convicting you of any sin?
Next, Adjust your aim! This is where we must change the way we think. According to the Word, this is what true repentance is. Don't just say you’re sorry, start to learn by renewing your mind. "Adjust your sights" by believing in His Word, and having faith that His grace is greater than your sin. Many times we have a "believing" problem, not a sin issue.
Romans 5:20-21 (MSG) says,
“All that passing laws against sin did was produce more lawbreakers. But sin didn’t, and doesn’t, have a chance in competition with the aggressive forgiveness we call grace. When it’s sin versus grace, grace wins hands down. All sin can do is threaten us with death, and that’s the end of it. Grace, because God is putting everything together again through the Messiah, invites us into life—a life that goes on and on and on, world without end.”
The grace of God not only gets you out of situations, it keeps you from getting in them!!! Adjust your aim by knowing who you are in God. Remember, you’re the righteousness of God (2 Cor 5:21), BELIEVE IT! Last but not least, "Give it another SHOT!" ITS OVER!!! NOW! FORGET ABOUT IT! Proverbs says that the Righteous falls 7 times and GETS BACK UP 7!! Don't let condemnation keep you from loving others and sharing the good news. Jesus told Peter, "I know you’re going to blow it, so remember to repent, and jump back into loving others (Luke 22:31-32 NLT).
It's time to forget the past and hit the mark by reaching out to others. People of God, let's hit the BULLSEYE AND WIN!
